Passing of another Wise man

It was with great sadness yesterday that I learned that a man who taught me a lot of things connected with not only fishing but life in general has passed away. Mr John Reid.

John tending his beloved fish in the stock ponds at the bleachfields in the 1970s.

A fantastic fisherman, well known in my younger days as not only being a great fisherman but a staunch supporter and go to man of the Avon Angling Club in Larkhall, John always had time for anyone.
He moved onto bigger & better things as I grew up and was the owner of Tinto Trout Fishery at Biggar and his reputation was unsurpassed for great wild fishing not only in the UK but over Europe.

John was often seen tending the banks well into the darkness and often had his leg pulled about being called the lawnmower man.

John will be sorely missed not only by me but by everyone who had the pleasure of his wit, humour & company

My deepest condolences to his lovely wife Gwen, his son Munro and daughter in law Yvonne and the rest of the family.

Munro has the closing words which sums John up to a tee.....

" Well that's John Boy Reid the Laird of Loch Lyoch off to fish the great Caithness limestone loch in the sky with his fishing buddies who passed before him and no doubt claimed the best spots, that will not bother him as he strolls off with his split cane Scottie Rod and cast of three flies.
A great fisherman and ambassador for the sport, amazing husband, brother, father and grand father with a sense of humour second to none. You will be sorely missed old yin. Tight lines Dad!"

R.I.P Sir
