A Summers Day Walk!

With the clocks going forward (thanks Neil) last  night and today meant to be the first day of summer I decided what better way to start my 2013 Brown Trout Season but with a walk along the banks, I wasn't hopeful of any fish showing themselves, but decided to take the rod along anyway.

Temperatures last night were still dropping to -3 and below and as you can see there is still plenty of snow around at lower levels as the higher hill tops are still coated in natures white quilt, mother natures way of just reminding us that this years winter still has not finished with us, no matter when we think its summer.

What astounded me the most was the clarity of the water, it was Gin clear and well below summer levels making things easier to see and obviously allowing fish to see us, I never seen a single live fish all afternoon but did see this carcass of a Salmon on the riverbed which got me wondering did she manage to get to where she wanted before succumbing to the North Yorkshire Cold!.....Please no witty comments!!

It wasn't long before I met up with an old friend I see from time to time on the river and he was fairing just like myself, an afternoon sunday stroll along the river was about all he was hoping for himself, so we had a walk back up the river together and called it a day.

After a lovely cup of Cappuccino and a warm through, I finished off the last of the floats that I had on the drying rack that had taken a back seat with the holidays & other ongoing matters, so back to the books I suppose where I can read about brown trout sipping down a dry fly on a balmy summers evening.

  2. If it is summer for you, I guess that makes it winter for me. I cannot stand temperatures as low as 28 degrees celcius and constant sunshine.
